We appreciate your interest in the Axumite Heritage Foundation!
When ECDC's president Dr. Tsehaye Teferra visited the 'Inda Nebri'id in 1992, the former home of the governor of Axum was in ruins.
What was once a stately building had been ravaged by years of neglect and war.
The building had been used by the Derg regime as a military outpost and as well as a prison. Many residents of Axum suffered countless abuses here.
After many years of renovation, the Axumite Heritage Foundation opened the 'Inda Nebri'id to the public as Axum's first public library.
The library is a focal point of civic pride for the residents of Axum.
With 20,000 books in its possession, the library offers resources that are unavailable anywhere else in the city.
Many students lack adequate study space in often crowded homes. The library offers a place for them to do their work in a quiet and ordered environment.
The library's gardens are beautifully maintained by a dedicated staff.
